In the past decade this world has been through tragedies that most people wouldn't even think were possible. We have been through hurricanes, earthquakes, attacks, tsunamis, and so much more. On the morning of September 11, 2001 terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airlines. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights.
Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest hurricane, as well as one of the deadliest, in the history of the United States. Among recorded Atlantic hurricanes, it was the sixth strongest overall. Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005 and crossed southern Florida as a moderate category 1 hurricane causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. Most sever loss of life occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana which flooded as the levee system failed, in many cases hours after the storm had moved inland. Eventually 80% of the city and large tracts of neighboring parishes became flooded, and the flood waters lingered for weeks.
The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea mega thrust earthquake that occurred on December 26, 2004, with an epicenter off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.
The earthquake was caused by subduction and triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing nearly 230,000 people in fourteen countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 meters (100 feet) high. With a magnitudeof between 9.1 and 9.3, it is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph.
The 2009 flu pandemic is a global outbreak of a new strain of H1N1 influenza virus, often referred to as "swine flu". Although the virus, first detected in April 2009, contains a combination of genes from swine influenza, avian flu, and human influenza viruses, it cannot be spread by eating pork or pork products. The outbreak began in the state of Veracruz, Mexico, with evidence that there had been an ongoing epidemic for months before it was officially recognized as such. The Mexican government closed most of Mexico City's public and private facilities in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.
The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 M earthquake, with an epicenter near the town of Leogane, approximately 25 km (16 miles) west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. The earthquake occurred on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. By January 24, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake;the Haitian Government reported that an estimated 230,000 people had died, 300,000 had been injured and 1,000,000 made homeless. They also estimated that 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged.

This is my second digital story. I am part of both my high school varsity softball and basketball team.My story is about how becoming part of a team has taught me various life lessons. I have become close with all my team mates and they have taught be how to become a team player.
Coming to high school everyone has first time jitters, becoming a part of extra curricular activities could help make you a lot more comfortable wit your surroundings. I play on both the varsity softball and basketball team for my high school. Not only have I excelled in the sports but I made so many new friends. My team mates and my teachers have taught me to really become a team player, and these skills will stay with me for the rest of my life. I love doing sports after school, and I can rely on all of my girls and know they will always be there to pick me up when I fall.
I watched three digital stories that were all pretty much on the same level of advancement. They all told a story, with both images and words. The only compliant I would have was that two of the three stories I watched the pictures and words weren't on the screen long enough for me to read the captions, and I had to go back to get the full understanding of the story. All stories over all were good, and did well when it came to the rubric. They gave me some ideas for my future digital stories.
The topic for my second digital story is going to be world wide disasters that have went on in the past 10 years. Such as hurricanes, attacks, tsunamis, earth quakes, and world wide diseases

HOMEWORK - In a 150 words or more you will write an explanation of how how your project relates to our schools graduate portfolio. Open a new Google Doc and name it "Graduate Portfolio Reflection - Story 1". Review the CSI Graduate Portfolio and discuss which portions of the portfolio match the work that is reflected in your project. example - did it make you "academically prepared", "culturally aware", or a "21st Century Thinker" ? Explain in your writing. This project we focused our our generation and the way society and ourselves have changed over time. There are a few different portions of the Graduate portfolio that reflect in my first digital story. First off, it has made me an 'effective user of technology.' Although I have always been good with computers, this project taught me how to use different programs on a mac. We were taught to use iMovie and insert pictures, music, videos, etc. We had to make a blog and post our digital story on our blog, and I was never familiar with blogs or how they worked. Being an effective user of technology I felt this made me academically prepared, knowing how to use these different programs will help me to put them into my school work and be more creative. A theme of my project was who I am, and my culture and traditions my family takes part in. My project includes, my heritage, my religion and family traditions. Watching other peoples digital stories I saw a bit of there culture, which I believe makes me 'Culturally aware.'

This is a digital story about my life. Every slide shows a different aspect of my life. It shows a little bit of my personality, my family, my hobbies, and my generation. Our task was to create a digital story using words, pictures and captions. We learned to use iMovie.
The hardest question to answer, is who am I. My name is Jennifer Carullo, I am a fifteen year old girl and I have still yet to figure that out. I grew up in Staten Island, New York, which a bit more urban than it used to be. I live in a middle class home with both my parents, and two older brothers. My family is a traditional Italian American family and unlike many other families today, we are very close knit and still eat dinner at the table together every night. We follow traditions any Catholic family today would, such as vacations, BBQ's and holidays. I love holidays and they are all well spent with the people who are most important to me. Almost all my free time after school goes into my high shools varsity basketball and softball team. I've been playing sports since I was in third grade, because I grew up watching my brothers play. Since I was little my mind has changed a million times about my future, and I'm still yet sure what I want my plans to be but all I know is I want to go to a good college and become successful, and most of all satisfy myself.
I also spend alot of time on the computer, my cellphone and on my ipod. Especially with all the social networking sites today, these technologies have become very popular. You can access anything from the little devices, and its fascinating to most people. I love to listen to music so I have my ipod with me at all times. My cellphone is also always on me and charged so I can always be reached.
